Watching a pair of birds move in, build a nest and raise a brood is one of the best shows in birding. This nest box is made from rot- and insect-resistant cedar with rust-free hardware, and suits bluebirds, wrens, chickadees and other cavity nesters.
It has the features bluebird fans look for: a removable back panel for cleaning out old nests and peeking in, wall and floor vents, a raised mesh floor that drains and helps with blowfly pests, and grooves inside so fledglings can climb out. Pre-drilled holes let it go on a pole or flat on a post.
Bluebirds want open ground - a big lawn, field or park edge - and the box does best on a pole with a predator guard, which is sold separately. In a small wooded yard it is more likely to house wrens or chickadees.
Skip for someone with only a balcony or no place to mount a box.
