Why this gift works
Cascadia is a tile-laying board game from AEG and Flatout Games, designed by Randy Flynn, for 1 to 4 players aged 10 and up, taking 30 to 45 minutes. Each turn a player takes a hexagonal habitat tile paired with a wildlife token - bear, elk, salmon, hawk or fox - and places both in their own landscape, scoring for wildlife patterns and large connected habitats. The scoring cards change from game to game. It won the 2022 Spiel des Jahres.
It is easy to teach and relaxing to play, which makes it a good step up for families and couples who have outgrown the classic games. It plays solo too.
