- Great gift ideaChosen for real-world gifting
- Hand-pickedCurated, not scraped
- Honest reviewThe catch, not just the hype
Why this gift works
Wireless on-ear headphones built for one job: watching television. A transmitter plugs into the TV and doubles as the charging cradle, and the headphones carry the sound across the room - Sennheiser puts the range at up to 60 meters. Three sound modes, speech, music and neutral, include one aimed at making dialogue easier to follow.
The real gift is peace in the living room. He gets the news at the volume he wants, whoever is reading on the sofa beside him gets quiet, and the running argument about the remote simply stops. It is a practical upgrade that looks like ordinary good audio gear, not an aid.
Who is this gift for?
Great for
- A husband who watches the evening news at full blast
- A man who keeps asking what the actor just said
- Couples who sleep and watch on different schedules
Think twice if
- His TV only has an optical audio output
- His hearing aids already stream TV sound
The catch
It connects with an analog cable (RCA, with a 3.5 mm adapter in the box), and many newer TVs only offer an optical output - check the back of his TV before buying, or plan on a small converter.
Skip if his hearing aids already stream TV sound, or if he dislikes anything resting on his ears for a whole film.
Worth knowing before you buy
- It connects by RCA cable or a 3.5 mm adapter, both included.
- Sennheiser rates the range at up to 60 meters and the battery at up to 20 hours.
- The on-ear pads rest on the ear rather than around it.
Why we like it
- He sets his own volume without disturbing the room
- A speech mode meant to bring dialogue forward
- The transmitter doubles as the charging cradle
- Looks like normal headphones, not a hearing aid
Questions people ask
It connects through analog audio - RCA, or a headphone jack using the included 3.5 mm adapter. If his TV only has an optical port, he will need a small digital-to-analog converter, so check the TV's outputs first.
